*NIX desktops are all over it like a rash; all the best tools are *NIX; I'm just waiting for Apple to get the bug.

Couple of problems with it in the context of using SVG to replace pixmap screen furniture and icons are that (a) it requires significantly more CPU than pixmaps, and (b) it doesn't necessarily do so well at low colour resolutions (where a human icon designer can do better in some cases).

These two hurdles notwithstanding, I can see SVG replacing pixmaps, at least in UNIX desktop space, within the next couple of years. All it really needs is for something like SodiPodi to grow an interface that doesn't make the casual user run away screaming.
