Try making ISO images of the disks
and then use VPC to load those ISO images as a CD Drive. Sounds like a VPC update hosed up the CD file system or something.

As I already have the ISOs on win - can txfr them to a USB disk & reload them onto apple (rather than use my active 802.11b wi-fi lan - that would take a loooong time).
