New CD drive question
I just bought a cheap external USB CD drive (the internal drive died). It works fine except taht it won't play music. It sees the msuic tracks, and my sound card is working because I can play music from the internet, but from the CD, real player or winamp says it is playing but I hear nothing. Any suggestions?
New Check your mixer settings.
Is the CD audio muted?

New Audio cable?
Was there an audio cable that shipped with the drive that plugs into an audio card?

Most internal CD drives include an audio cable to hook into the sound card, or else no CD audio can be played. I never used an external CD drive before, so I am only guessing here.

New Thanks that was it
I didn't realize that I needed to plug it into the sound card.
New I figured that was it
it was a WAG, but it was the right answer. :)

New Also...
check the device properties and ensure digital CD playback is enabled.

New Have you enabled digital transfer?
I do that for my internal drives so I don't need to use the (rather crappy) audio cables that come with them.

I don't know if that applies to USB drives, though.

New Re: Have you enabled digital transfer?
I couldn't see a way to do that for a USB CD drive. In any case, I hooked up the audio cable so that I can hear the music

Son, when you've lived as long as I have, you'll want to forget most of it too.
