New What, did Yoko get into rasterization?
Seriously, that is sad in a way. They did a hell of a job.

New Political reorganisation
The XFree86 core team had precious little to do with the development any more. They'd become an impediment, not an asset.

New Probably a good thing
This should end up being a good thing unless they badly botch the reoganization. The Core Team had been nothing but a delaying level of bureaucracy in the last few years.

My understanding is that the Core Team have done little real work recently, but they still had to approve all changes. This caused the development to get massivly delayed because changes submited to XFree86 group where not being applied. Some changes where left sitting for more then 6 months, which is simply unworkable for a project as dynamic as XFree86. At that rate changes to add a new video card might not be added till the card is obsolete.

New Good to know.
I'll confess to worrying that the XFree86 group was about to disband.
Having an entity called the "Core Team" disband sounds rather daunting. It's good to know that the real movers and shakers are still interested. As much as I dislike GUIs, without a GOOD GUI, *nix is going to lose to M$.
New Re: Good to know.
We didn't know that you were a CLI junkie. Welcome, brother!

Keith Packard was kicked off the core team earlier in the year. No one other person IMO has been more responsible for bringing X out of the dark ages. I wonder if they were ill-prepared to change their attitudes about what X is and could be?
