[link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/34191.html|http://www.theregist...tent/6/34191.html]

Just weeks after an antitrust suit was filed against the RIAA by webcasters, the music labels' lobby group, is, along with Hollywood, seeking a permanent exemption from similar litigation. The proposal seeks to extend the exemption to anything covering mechanical copyright: a sweeping extension of the copyright cartel's immunity.

New Well, why not?
I mean, Major League Baseball shouldn't be the only protected industry in this country...

New Nit
I refuse to call baseball an industry. It's just one of may athletics-based entertainments. thus it's part of the entertainment industry.

Okay, we commonly talk about the movie industry even though it's also a sub-section of "entertainment." But the smallest I'll go is the "professional sports industry".

New Interesting word, that.
Hi Drew,

I tend to think of [link|http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=industry|industry] as in the sense of definitions of 2 and 3 (i.e. manufacturing). But the oldest meaning of the word comes from the Latin industria which means "diligent activity directed to some purpose\ufffd. So...

Cheers,
Scott.
(who still has trouble with terms like "software industry"...)
New I ugess they mean defn 6
6. Ongoing work or study associated with a specified subject or figure: the Civil War industry; the Hemingway industry.
But yeah, I tend to think in terms of defns 2 & 3 also.
