Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I've finished upgrading (a report)
So far, so good.

Some random thoughts:

Thanks to .Mac, I was able to restore my calendars, addresses and Safari bookmarks. I re-authorized iTunes and the iPod for both Audible and ITMS. I lost a couple of playlists but I can no music.

My e-mail restored nicely from backups, as did my other home directory files.

Prefling doesn't work any more.

Xcode looks really cool, and I was able to open my old projects in it directly. The distributed builds feature is off by default and you have a choice of allowing your computer to be used for a build and/or using other computers for a build. Well, I have a class project to work on this weekend so I'll give it a good workout.

Looks great so far. The Aqua theme is toned down from Jaguar and the fonts are pretty easy on the eyes. Mail.app looks wonderful but GPGMail doesn't work in this version so it was automatically disabled.

The brushed metal Finder is going to take a little getting used to, but I've already found little changes here and there that are going to make my workflow smoother. Expose is awesome and I look forward to playing with it.

That's it for now.

New Do you use Oracle (and does it stil work)?

New Don't use Oracle, unfortunately
Or fortunately, depending on your point of view.

Are these Java-based? If so, I think the JVM is still 1.4.1, so I would guess that they might work.

New Sounds good
haven't picked it up yet. My brother's still here and we're attempting to paint the house between storm clouds :-/ i hope to pick it up tomorrow when he heads home.

Can you clarify the "I lost a couple of playlists but I can no music." ?

New Well, if you put it that way
it sounds like gibberish.

Anyway, I restored my preferences from backup, including iTunes but for some reason some of my playlists were missing. However, my music files were on another partition so I dragged them into iTunes, restored what missing playlists I still cared about (they were smart playlists so I just had to recreate the filters) and I was good to go.

Audible files and ITMS files both play after re-authorization.

There's a good article online called [link|http://diveintoosx.org/panther/|What's New in Mac OS X 10.3 Panther ].

I learned about a lot of system features that I didn't realize were there. As I said, there are the big things like Expose and tons of little useability tweaks that really add value to this update for me.

I connected to a Windows printer at school today. I simply selected Windows Printing from the Add Printer dialog in the Print Setup Utility (the new Print Center), it scanned the network, found the printer, let me select it and set it up. Easy-peasy.

New thanx!
Interesting read, makes me even more anxious to get updated :-)

However, I wasn't able to pick it up this weekend. I took my brother & his family out for dinner before they headed back to Corpus Christi and wasn't able to make it to the store before they closed.
