FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!
Just got my notice. Two more weeks, plus my paid vacation time, plus one week's severance if I work the full two weeks. If I get something before then, I don't get the severance. (That's reasonable, I suppose.)
Our company was formed just under two years ago to work on a major project. The idea was that by the time that was done, we would have lined up more clients. Didn't happen though. Not enough anyway.
So anyway, I'll have the resume updated and posted sometime tonight or tomorrow. Anyone looking for project lead/business analyst/PHP-SQL coder?

Gah.
Lots of this going around lately. :-(
I know several higher ups at a company (Brulant) in Cleveland that does web dev. They do a lot of MS crap, but they're also starting up a practice for Java (including some possible Linux work) to do pharmaceutical and genomic work. The owner has a large stake in Secant Technologies (also based in Cleveland IIRC) -- look on Secant's web site for some info on the pharm/genome stuff. Warning: the Brulant website is really, really nasty -- all Flash, etc. I almost went to work for the guy who owns Brulant a few years ago, and I really respect some of the people who work for him now.
Interested?

There's a couple listings that are what I want
I'm about to do a cover page for them. Should I direct it to anyone's attention in particular, or just use the form they have on the site?

Groovy!
There's one listing that's what I do now. There's one that's what I should be doing, if I worked somewhere with enough people to need a team lead. I'm having some people look over the resume right now. Let me know when/where to send it.
Thanks.
(PS: I looked at the samples of work they've done. They did the web site for my previous employer. I remember at the time having a few ideas how to improve it ...)

Any word from your contact yet?
I'm starting to get responses from the job sites. I'd really like to find something local, though, so I'd like to talk to them.

Should I assume she's been unresponsive?
I've had a few headhunters working on my behalf, but they don't have the same sense of urgency I do. So is it time for me to respond to the company's ads directly, rather than waiting for you to contact your contact?

Damn
Sorry to hear it. Still interested in moving to Chicago? The last time I looked, they had a significant number of openings. The help wanted ads in the Chicago Tribune are thicker than a lot of city's phone books.

How good is the online version of the Tribune's ads? (Guess I'll go look for myself.)

Tribune online ads
I last used them about two years ago and they had a great search utility at that time. Put in the buzzwords, back comes the ads.

Uhhhhhhhhh....
The help wanted ads in the Trib have gotten steadily THINNER over the past year and a half. The Sunday's help wanteds used to be three full sections of print. Now it's barely one and a half.
The tech field part of that, especially, is shrinking, I'm sorry to see.

Us IWETHEY'ers are getting uninstalled a lot. We still ought to form our own company or something.

Hope it's a small advantage
that it was the company that 'left', not you (?)
It's soundiny irregularly weird out there in IT land - let's hope that there're still some places left for intelligence.. next.
May you not have to settle for management - you might not do well at playing dumb :(
Cheers,

Just cleaned out desk
My wife will be here in about five minutes to pick me up. Time to start beating on doors. Don't know how much time I'll have to stop in here, but if anyone gets any job leads I'll sure be checking this forum daily.
Signing off ...

Why?
Because they don't have enough work. That happens sometimes. Nothing personal. Get over it, Ross, not everything is a grand plan by the man to screw middle-aged non-union white 'Murican workers.
It happens to union employees too, for that matter.

Not enough work. But then, I'm not in sales, so I can't take any responsibility for that.
