New Cheney: Thanks for the great army, Mr. Clinton

One of the real myths is that Bush is a great commander in chief who has built up our armed forces (even as he's slashed veterans' benefits). Not so. Bush inherited a great military from Clinton. That's not my opinion. It's Dick Cheney's, who said in an August 2000 forum at the Southern Center for International Studies right here in Atlanta: "A commander in chief leads the military built by those who came before him. There is little that he or his defense secretary can do to improve the force they have to deploy. It is all the work of previous administrations." (Thanks to Al Franken for digging up that quote for his book, Lies and the Lying Liars who Tell Them.)

New Cheney: Thanks for the great army, Mr. Reagan.

As long as we're giving credit, let's give credit where it's due.

DEAL WITH IT.

Never mind all the mass graves. Where's the nerve gas?

New Reagan hell
everyone knows that it was Washington who left us the great Military!
New Needless to say, the party broke up
If you're measuring the people below poverty level - its going up under the reckless party. Along with unemployment. If the reckless party wants to fix that, they'll have to raise the minimum wage *and* create jobs. That'll be a neat trick. Anybody want to give odds on whether the "business before basics" party is likely to do that?

In other news, the country's wealthiest got wealthier this year while the other 95% of the population face continued errosion of their assets.

Right here and now I'm in danger of losing all I achieved under the 8 years of democratic rule if I don't find paying work in 60 days (because nobody will hire until next January after that with the holidays).

Wanna guess what I do when I completely run out of money?

That policy emphasizes improving the quality of life for service members, providing cost-of-living pay raises, maintaining military combat readiness and keeping the overseas force steady at 100,000 in Europe and 100,000 in the Pacific.

At the urging of top uniformed commanders, Clinton plans eventually to shift some funds into weapons procurement, a spending category that this year reached its lowest level since the Korean War. But sources familiar with the proposal for next year said the procurement increase apparently is being put off until defense budgets are compiled for 1998 and beyond.

Emphasis added. No credit to Reagan there.

As for your second link, it has nothing to do with the topic on hand.
