Every Sunday when the weather is good, 6-year-old Lance McDermott and a friend take a garbage bag and pick up litter around their Naperville apartment complex.
They were at their self-appointed chore Sunday afternoon when they fished a two-liter pop bottle out of a pond and dumped it in their plastic bag. A moment later, the bottle--actually a homemade bomb made with caustic household chemicals--exploded and injured the boys.

The bottle was the fifth bomb found in the last week in a five-block area of northwest Naperville, police said. Three of the devices, dubbed "MacGyver bombs" after the former TV show whose star built complicated gadgets out of simple household items, destroyed mailboxes in the Brookdale subdivision. A fourth bomb found in a mailbox was destroyed by police on Saturday.
