Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Goin' to the Joe 10/4.
Got 3 tickets to take my daughters up to the Joe and see the Leafs beat 'em.

The truth is I will be coming home listening to fighting between my two girls unless it turns out to be a tie. But, my youngest is on Cloud 9. She's a huge Wings fan and can't believe she's going to the "hallowed hall of hockeytown".

The soul and substance of what customarily ranks as patriotism is moral cowardice and always has been...We have thrown away the most valuable asset we had-- the individual's right to oppose both flag and country when he (just he, by himself) believed them to be in the wrong. We have thrown it away; and with it all that was really respectable about that grotesque and laughable word, Patriotism.

- Mark Twain, "Monarchical and Republican Patriotism"
New Lucky dog.
I have to go to the Pond if I ever want to see them. And those are boring games... :( the Wings hardly lift a finger and always end up winning by 1. Rest stop.
"There's a set of rules that anything that was in the world when you were born is normal and natural. Anything invented between when you were 15 and 35 is new and revolutionary and exciting, and you'll probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you're 35 is against the natural order of things."

Douglas Adams
New Thinking about trying to catch some Sens games this year
I think the ownership there deserves my money more than the Leafs ownership does; Leafs' owners know they can put a bunch of nancies on ice and make money, so they do.

New Leafs? Nancies?
What do you think? Let's not forget... it's a team, not a collection of players. Sure, there are good individuals there, but like I said, the owners know they can put a team of nancies on the ice and make money, so they do.

New It doesn't help that the majority owner is a pension fund
Nearly 60% owned by the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund. You all know what the motives are of a pension fund. While I'll give the organization some credit in adding some players to try and win the Cup, I don't think it'll ever reach the committment to winning that the Avs or Wings do until the Teachers are no longer there. It's a damn shame the Leafs couldn't be owned by Mr. Billionaire Melnyk instead of the Sens. What this town needs is a deep pocketed owner who doesn't need to make a profit off the team.

New The thing is
a deep-pocketed owner could make a profit off the team. The issue is not "making a profit" vs. "losing money", it's "making more profit" vs. "making less profit", ESPECIALLY when you're talking about the Leafs. It's not like the situation that (for example) the Flames face, where it's a constant balancing act to avoid losing money on any given season.

An institution like the Teachers will always choose "making more profit" while they can get away with it. It's up to the fans to make it clear to them that they can't. A month of empty arenas would do the trick, I'd think.
