Our favorite is when a car falling from a high place explodes the instant before it hits the ground. It's as though its gas tank gets panicky and detonates at the mere thought of striking Earth. Fortunately, the physics are not so cooperative. Interestingly, in "Planet of the Apes", the departing astronauts acknowledge the effects of distant travel - that they won't be home any time soon, and they are leaving for good as far as friends and family and community and nation are concerned. That's the only movie I can think of that gets it right. -drl
