The main theme in Terry Southern's "Dr. Strangelove" is that men will blow the world to hell if they can't get the hell blown out of them. The movie is filled with phallic symbols (rockets, jets, precious bodily fluids) and more or less begins with a bombadier riffing through Playboy. The "climactic" scene has Major Kong riding a big dick into eternity. So maybe there is some homo-panic involved too... I return to my main suggestion for world peace - good hookers and good smoke.
