New Laptop Fan
The fan on my Toshiba Tecra 8000 nevers spins up. Is this normal? The machine runs fine and doesn't seem to be overheating.

New Are you sure?
The Tecras have very quiet fans, unlike the Satellite Pro series, which all sound like little hovercraft.

New Re: Are you sure?
Yep - it only uses the fan when it's hot, but that seems to be never with the latest APCI bios. Odd, I'd sort of prefer it on when on AC power, sound or no.
New Put a distributed client on it...
Seti@home or GIMPS come to mind. Building a kernel should do it as well.

I find fans tend to spin up in 30 seconds or so of such activity.

OTOH, I'm playing with a thinkpad right now, and the damned thing's virtually silent. I like ;-)

Even (somewhat) getting used to the Nub (or is that clit?).

Tasteful, translucent, understated...it was the most charming, pleasant system crash I've ever experienced.
