New I'm not hardware
I'm primarily an applications developer, with an background of unofficially doing DBA-type work.

What are the odds of becoming some type of apps developer on *nix and getting an entry level position in that line of work? Can it be done quickly?

New I 'd say...
More so than you think.

Eating NUX Flakes (using *NIX) is about very similar to those Tandem thingies. They are an acquired taste.

Yes, I knew you weren;t a Hardware Person, I was just telling you I wasn;t getting any phone calls or hits on my resume.

I see more *doze stuff happening rather than anything else, mainly because M$ has REALLY been doing the Salesman shuffle lately. IN the past 10 Months I have talked to more and more people/companies about why they need NEWER versions of M$ bloatware.

I always tell them, to WAIT until there is a valid requirement, M$ is more than happy to "help" you out should you be in a pinch. Mean while, I take older machines from them and turn them into useful contributing member of society and so on.

New Re: I 'd say...
There is still a cadre of arrogant pricks hiding in consulting firms, accounting and auditing firms, etc. that are MS all the way, still hiding their ignorance in the wafting fog of MS mystery servers.

UNIX still engenders fear and suspicion from these non-cogniscenti.
