New MDAC > 2.5?
The MDAC version on the client probably needs to be in a certain range for later versions of the -ahem- database.

New Re: MDAC > 2.5?
I thought maybe it was one of the References, specifically DAO 3.6 Object Library, but that only worked once.

Here are the references for one that does NOT import:
Visual Basic for Applications
Msft Access 9.0 Object Library
Msft DAO 3.6 Object Library
OLE Automation
Msft ActiveX Data Objects 2.1 Library

Here are the references for one that DOES import (brand new MDB):
Visual Basic for Applications
Msft Access 9.0 Object Library
OLE Automation
Msft ActiveX Data Objects 2.1 Library

I tried removing the DAO 3.6, and that worked once.

Just for the hell of it, install MDAC_TYP 2.6 (get it from the beast) and see what happens.

New Re: MDAC > 2.5?
I tried 2.7 and that didn't do anything. I briefly thought I had it fixed by using the DAO 3.51 instead of 3.6; it worked for a while, but now it's doing the same thing again.

I think I will have to enlist the Uber-nerd from downstairs for one final attempt before I reformat the whole $)@#$^*(#&$^ thing.
New Re: MDAC > 2.5?
Curious - don't some of the latter versions of Windows (since ME) have silent "system restore"? After installing DAO of proper version, set a checkpoint ("System Information" tool, "System File Checker" in Windows 98SE), so the thing doesn't get rolled back.

This is what sucks the most about Windows - diagnosing problems in the dark.
