Welcome to IWETHEY!

New A smorg\ufffdsbord of Right-wing IT stuff to make us "safe":
Want US news? - try UK - won't see much of this in local papers

[link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/21851.html|But first - more M$ Virtuosity]

Ashcroft via Reg - hacking as terrorism!
Make world safe for M$ grade software!

[link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/21854.html|Our AG seen elsewhere, via Green in DC]

[link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/57/21836.html|Face-recognition takes off]

Ashcroft via Reg - hacking as terrorism!
Make world safe for M$ grade software!

[link|http://cryptome.org/mata.htm|"MATA" - the Very Thing Itself (wait til you see, later: HARI)]

Now if MATA doesn't get our attention -?- after DMCA and the SSSCSwhatever-thing warming up in the cauldron - we may as well just buy our armbands with oddly-bent crosses, and join the Crusade for Safety Has Its Temptations

Yes, it's a Brave Neue Welt out there, to coin a phrase.. Set language-murder detector on stun.

New Guess who said it---

Before we start dismantling constitutionally protected safeguards and diminishing fundamental rights to privacy, we should first examine why last week\ufffds attacks occurred

Hint-
It was a congess critter, it wasn't a Democrat nor any flavor of liberal.

In an [link|http://www.economist.com/agenda/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=796987|Economist] article on civil liberties, about halfway down the page, Bob Barr ferchrissakes is quoted citing concerns over civil liberties. I don't think this will get steamrollered in quite as easily as some suspect.
For every human problem, there is a neat, simple solution;
and it is always wrong
H. L. Mencken, Mencken's Metalaw
New If I remember right....
it was Rush. Shocked the hell outta me. (It ought to scare you too when leftist pinko liberals and Rush are agreeing with one another!)

If you wanted a fun article, read this [link|http://www.msnbc.com/news/634264.asp| one ] (The negative impact of pacifism).

(Gotta love someone who implies that Jesus is immoral.)

The rhetoric is just too much fun lately....
New guess who said assasination is a tool of choice for us?
Alan Dershowitz of Harvard fame on a talk show locally. Freaked out the liberal host.
thanx,
bill
why did god give us a talleywhacker and a trigger finger if he didnt want us to use them?

New Constitution? We don' need no steenking Constitution!!!
From the mouth (or other such orifice) of the Beast (the MATA) itself:

Except as provided herein and notwithstanding any other provision of law, including section 2241 of title 28, United States Code, no
court shall have jurisdiction to review, by habeas corpus petition or otherwise, any action taken, administrative proceeding brought,
or determination made --

(1) to detain an alien under section 203 of this Act; without regard to the place of detention, judicial review of the detention of suspected terrorists is available only by habeas corpus petition filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and only upon issuance of a final order of removal pursuant,to sections 238 or 240 of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952; and

(2) to remove an alien under section 201 of this Act; without regard to the place in which the immigration court or other administrative proceedings were conducted, judicial review of an order of removal of an alien terrorist entered under section 238 or 240 of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, and of any cause of claim raised with respect to the proceedings which resulted in such order, is available only by petition for review filed in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, in accordance with the procedures and limitations specified in section 242 of such Immigration and Nationality Act.

In other words (AFAICT), if you're an alien, and somebody in the FBI decides you're, well you're potentially dangerous, you can be locked up, indefinitely, without any judicial review or petition.

And that's the "measured" and "constitutional" response the Administration wants.

May God have mercy on us all (because it doesn't look like anyone in Washington is gonna...).

(Resistance is not futile...)
New how is that a change?
There was a florida prof who was held for 3 years without a charge by INS.
thanx,

New Get your facts straight or keep it in politics
Quite a lot of people "on the right", e.g National Review, are quite critical of Ashcroft's wish list.

And, it's not a "right wing" wish list -- it's a bureacratic wish list. The FBI, et al were asking for these same things under Clinton (and probably under Reagan and Bush I, too). My guess is that the DoJ asked "what do you (FBI, CIA, INS, etc) need to combat terrorism" and put all their answers into this bill.

That still doesn't excuse Ashcroft for proposing this as the cure for terrorism (which it ain't).

Tony
New You're Right.
no pun intended :-)

Yes, even Rush made sense for a day. Mirabile dictu, or something.

A.
New You need your quote.
Something about getting better US news from the Brits.

I can't remember who had it in their sig.

Wade.

"All around me are nothing but fakes
Come with me on the biggest fake of all!"

New That was moi. And it went like this:
(I get better Murican coverage reading English press, thankyouverymuch - at least they can speak the language.) - [link|http://pub4.ezboard.com/fiwetheypolitics.showMessage?topicID=260.topic&index=6|Ashton Brown]

Hmm... "pub4"? I suspect that link should have gone [link|http://pub13.ezboard.com/fiwetheypolitics.showMessage?topicID=260.topic&index=6|to pub13] in stead.
   Christian R. Conrad
The Man Who Knows Fucking Everything
New Thankee.
Hmm. I think it's fallen off the board. Neither link works.

I remember Jay saying something about old topics dropping off the end of busy fora...

Wade.

"All around me are nothing but fakes
Come with me on the biggest fake of all!"

New Or maybe somebody moved it to the Archived Fora. (?)
New No, I think it's vanished.
I've been fetching forum pages in order to do the next phase of archiving and I noticed one of the Area 51 forums was 20 pages in size yet the topic numbers on the last page weren't very low. Then I found one of the old Open forums likewise and then I began to suspect what has happened. I'll have to spend some time carefully exploring the admin interface and possibly their help to see if I can't get all the remaining messages back, but given the one you were linking to has gone I don't hold out much hope.

Wade.

"All around me are nothing but fakes
Come with me on the biggest fake of all!"

New What UTTER fucking BASTARDS!
New Max 500 topics per forum.
After that they start falling off the end.

New "Callously". HTH!
New Heh.
Fill in the blank, I guess. :-D
Regards,

-scott anderson
New Is that noted somewhere?
Or did you chance across it by accident?

If they didn't document it properly, the more vindictive of us could reasonably point they'd deleted out content without permission and they have to restore it...

Wade.

"All around me are nothing but fakes
Come with me on the biggest fake of all!"

New Not that I know of.
Jay told me about it.
