Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Whew
So, I'm in Linux, and I see this file called "~" - just a tilde - next to my kernel. What the hell is that? I open it with a hex editor, and see names from Outlook's address book. OH SHIT I have a worm, I'm thinking - but can't think of any action that would have allowed one in - I'm extremely careful with email.

Anyway I do some Googling and can't find any info right off. Finally I see this:

It's a stupid leftover from an update to Outlook. Idiots!

New I have a habit from years ago to rename an orig file ~name
so perhaps it was an ex unix guy that designed the update? any time I have seen a tilde it has been a backup temp copy.
thanx,

New Right - it's like a target for find
MS installs seem to leave a lot of garbage around.
-drl
New Seems to be a common idiom.
Emacs auto-backup files are filename~.
