New didnt stop to think that autosave was broken
when you say no, your autosave doc in your user dir disappears, it didnt do that in dos 4.0 :-)

New Autosave is not crash protection
Autosave actually does a save of the file itself. Crash protection keeps a working copy in some temp hole. If you search the entire disk for XLS files, you might find a stale copy.
