This can ONLY do good. No matter how ANY company spins this it can only be good. Any attempts to portry this as bad... will just look shamefully biased.

New When did MySQL go commercial
MySQL Classic costs $220 per server while MySQL Pro is priced at $440 per server. Pricing for the renamed SAP DB will be announced later.

It had always been a free part of the distros before.

New It's always been that way
Read the fine print. It's still going to be free as long as you use the GPL. But if you plan to ship a product that incorporates MySQL, and you'd like your product (and your MySQL enhancements) to be proprietary, binary-only products, then you can buy a license and do so. IOW if you only use MySQL it's still free. If you distribute MySQL and include/offer source, it's still free. If you modify and distribute binary-only then you need a license.
