Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I made *some* progress
cardinfo will now identify the card properly. I'm pretty sure the Thinkpad support is ok, because it recognizes and works with my non-wireless ethernet card and my PCMCIA modem just ducky.

Last night/early this morning I was able to get it to connect to the Linksys hub for about ten seconds, then it lost the signal and was never able to regain it. I'm not sure why, or what I did to make it work. I thought maybe it was just out of range, so I moved the hub closer... no dice. I moved the laptop right next to it, still no luck. Not sure what the heck is going on. Ugh.

Maybe the problem isn't my laptop, maybe I did something screwy to the hub. I suppose there's some manual way to reset everything to its defaults (I don't recall actually changing any settings, but I don't know, maybe I did by accident).

New check for updates to the Linksys' BIOS
I've had to update the BIOS in my [link|http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=415|BEFW11S4] on two seperate occasions to correct connection problems.

First time was in 2001 to make it work with an iBook. The iBook didn't work at all until the Linksys was updated.

Second time was a couple months ago to work with my dad's new laptop. The laptop connected once, then wouldn't connect anymore - just like what happened to you.

New Ah...
so what I need to do is wait till my DSL connection starts doing its thing, then connect to the thing with a different computer in order to get the software. Or something to that effect. Ok, I'll give it a shot. I'm still going to try and find a way to reset it, though, because the more I think about it the more I think I may have inadvertently turned off something important... it's just the kind of stupid thing I'm wont to do.

New Suddenly it all works.
I put in a wired ethernet card and configured the Linksys hub. Then I stuck in my Netgear card and it mysteriously started talking. Then I realized that in order to get internet access I needed to setup ppoe, heh. So I did that. Now I have wireless DSL, and am pretty stoked.

New My 401 needed a BIOS upgrade.
Not that it didn't talk to the hub correctly or anything, bit the WEP options were a bit limited until I upgraded it.

New How do you upgrade PCMCIA BIOS?
In Linux, no less?

New I have no idea. :-)
You see, my laptop runs WindowsME (down Ashton, down!).

Certainly, as long as they don't require any treatment.
