New anti-aliased fonts coming to Mozilla?
[link|http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/|OS/2 Warp News and Rumors]
Gregory L. Marx reports that InnoTek will soon be releasing a public preview of a plugin for Mozilla that supports anti-aliased fonts.
Haven't heard anything else about this - have any of you?

New Dunno. But SCHWEET if it would be.
I dunno, X runs on OS/2, I'd bet ya Xft might be able to be ported (might even be already).

Have to look.

New Re: anti-aliased fonts coming to Mozilla?
And Innotek has released the first beta of "InnoTek Font Engine for OS/2" [link|http://www.innotek.de/products/ft2lib/ft2libgeneral_e.html|http://www.innotek.d...libgeneral_e.html]

I've tried it in both Mozilla and in FireBird and it does make a difference, though there is fuzziness on the outlines of characters. I'm told there is a setting to help with this. It currently only works with Mozilla and Firebird (the browser only version of Mozilla).

WTF does a "Font Engine" have to do with a database server?!?

Oh, so you didn't mean [link|http://firebird.sourceforge.net|Firebird]?

Maybe you meant "Mozilla Firebird"? But, how could you try something "in" that -- when, [link|http://www.mozilla.org/roadmap/branding.html|according to the Mozilla freaks themselves], "Mozilla Firebird" is a "project name", and there is no such product as "Mozilla Firebird"?

Please don't thoughtlessly dilute the Firebird project's product name like that any more.

Thank you.

New Nice!
It is a little "fuzzy", but not bad for a first release.

I use Mozilla Firebird on my laptop and it wouldn't install for it. MF doesn't have GFX_OS2.DLL in the components directory. I still have Phoenix on the laptop and it installed fine there, as well as under Mozilla 1.3 on my desktop.

New Now working in MF
I found this in the netscape.public.mozilla.os2 newsgroup:
You can use it with Mozilla Firebird.

Change the CMD file to do DLLRNAME on MozillaFirebird.exe instead of gfx_os2.dll

Mike Kaply
so I opened up install.cmd in E, then control-F'd to do the following 2 find/replaces.
Find: components\\gfx_os2.dll
Change To: MozillaFirebird.exe

Find: components\\gfx_os2.bak
Change To: MozillaFirebird.bak

New "hinting" helps
enabling hinting helps with the fuzziness. Have to run REGEDIT2 to modify it. From the readme:
All configuration data is stored in the OS/2 registry and can be edited using the OS/2 Registry Editor (regedit2.exe). The reason for using the registry instead of e.g. OS2.INI is the much higher flexibility of the registry compared to the limited OS2.INI format. The configuration data is stored below the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\InnoTek\\InnoTek Font Engine

Key: "Hinting"

Value: "Enabled", type: "DWORD"
0: disabled (default)
1: enabled

Key: "AntiAliasing"

Value: "Enabled", type: "DWORD"
0: disabled
1: enabled (default)

Key: "Fonts"

Key: "<name of font family>"

Value: "Mapping", type "String"
"<name of font family>"
